Renewable Resources

Paper is made from pulp, which consist of cellulose fibers extracted from wood – a typical renewable natural resource. The pulp mills use primarily trees unsuitable for woodworking and timber waste. Our papers are available with FSC® chain of custody certification denoting products sourced from responsibly managed forests.

Paper is a fully recyclable and biodegradable material. Therefore, paper products rank among the most environmentally friendly ones.

Energy

Paper production is an energy intensive industry. We have invested significant resources and effort into energy efficiency. The power station was completely rebuilt to use a small gas turbine for cogeneration. Waste heat is recovered and reused. Thermal energy from the production is used by the adjacent town of Hostinné for central and water heating.

Water

Water is vital to living organisms and paper industry alike. Therefore, we are not indifferent to its fate. We are committed to using and returning water back to nature in an environmentally conscious way. For many years, we have been constantly improving the water use efficiency of our paper mill. The water is recollected and reused. Because it passes through the production cycle repeatedly, the amount of water consumed is substantially reduced.

Wastewater is thoroughly cleaned and returned back to the river. In 2013, the biological stage of our wastewater treatment station was opened. After treatment, the pollutant levels achieved are well below the limits set by the legislation.

Environmental Management System (EMS)

We are certified to comply with the ISO 14001:2015 international standard for environmental impact reduction practices. The basis of EMS is the identification of all aspects affecting the environment, their monitoring, and reducing their environmental impacts. The EMS implementation ensures compliance with all environmental legislation requirements, promotes efficient use of raw materials and energy, and reduces the risk of environmental accidents.
